Trustee Bill Hauck gets an 'F'
May 3, 2006, Sacramento

About 250 CSU faculty and staff members and students gathered outside CSU Trustee Bill Hauck’s downtown Sacramento office building Wednesday afternoon to make it known that the business lobbyist is failing to advocate for the best interest of the university.

Waving large red “F” signs and a huge puppet of Hauck’s likeness, the demonstrators attracted an audience of those working in the building, as they chanted and cheered for more than an hour trying to make enough noise to reach the seventh-story office of the California Business Roundtable, where Hauck works and other corporate interests have their offices.

Following a slate of speakers, including CFA President John Travis, California State University Employees Union President Pat Gantt, Academic Professionals of California Vice President Barbara Petersen, CFA Sacramento Chapter President Cecil Canton and various students, the crowd rushed into the office building chanting for more funds for the CSU.

The action follows pleas to the entire Board of Trustees on Feb. 1 and to campus presidents in March to advocate more strongly at the state level for the true needs of the university rather than depending on student fee hikes to make up for lost state funding.

Hauck was given the “F” grade and singled out for his glaring disregard for improving the CSU by promoting student fee hikes and cuts to the university.
