ADVOCACY for the CSU:
Letters between CFA Pres.Travis and CSU Trustees Chair Galinson

The CSU needs strong advocates with a vision for the future!

CFA President John Travis and CSU Board of Trustees Chair Murray Galinson exchanged sharply worded letters over advocacy for funding for the CSU and related policies affecting hiring of faculty and student fee levels.

Travis’ initial letter sent December 9, 2005 pointed out specific instances in which the Trustees and the chancellor have abdicated their responsibilities to advocate for the CSU.

“The Board is not publicly representing the faculty, the staff, and the students…”
Travis wrote. Travis said the CSU faculty, staff and student leaders are the true trustees of the university.

Galinson replied in a letter dated December 20, 2005, describing what he says are “behind the scenes” efforts that accomplished the Trustees’ goals and criticized CFA for its public advocacy for the CSU.

Finally, Travis commented on the exchange of letters In his regular column in California Faculty magazine. The column appears in the Winter 2006 issue.
