THE COALITION OF CONTINGENT
ACADEMIC LABOR
(COCAL)

CFA is a member of the Coalition of Contingent Academic Labor (COCAL), a network of activists involved in contingent faculty issues. COCAL’s primary functions are sharing information and educating colleagues and the public about contingent faculty issues, and building solidarity among faculty activists.

CFA played an important role in the formation in 2002 of COCAL-California, a coalition of organizations representing contingent faculty in the UC, the CSU and the community colleges.

California is pleased to host COCAL VIII on August 8-10, 2008. The conference will be held at San Diego State University in San Diego, California.

The goal of this conference is to examine the trends undermining higher education and develop strategies for improving faculty conditions and protecting the future of our students and our profession.

This international conference unites contingent faculty and activists from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Participants include full and part-time non-tenured faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and others interested in the issues of contingent faculty and higher education.

The COCAL VIII agenda is currently being developed. Please visit our website at www.cocal-ca.org or contact Jacki Booth at jbooth@mail.sdsu.edu for more information.
