CSU Chico Provost Candidate Interviews

The CSU Chico Labor Council is meeting with each of the candidates for Provost and asking them the same set of questions.  Below are the questions and answers for each candidate listed chronologically starting with the most recent interview.

The campus administration is conducting a survey on these candidates and it is due Friday, May 18th at 9:00am.

On November 9th, faculty from CSU Chico came out and held an informational picket showing the public why they are frustrated with the mismanagement of the CSU by the administration.

On November 9th, Faculty members at CSU Chico will be picketing at the Bridges on campus between 11am and 1pm.  We will gather at the large bridge between Siskyou and Plumas Halls.  We are protesting the lack of progress on our current contract, the imposition against the factfinders recommendation of our last contract, the increased workload put on all of us and the overall poor leadership of Chancellor Reed.

Join Concerted Action at CSU East Bay
Get on the Bus, November 17th!!

On Thursday, November 17th, CFA members at CSU East Bay are planning on taking a concerted action against the CSU for failing to honor agreed upon raises from 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 despite a recommendation from two neutral fact-finders to do so.  CFA East Bay has asked colleagues from around Northern California to come support them.

On Wednesday, April 13th, CFA members will unite with students and staff to take a stand against the cuts from the legislature, to call for real leadership from the Chancellor and to demand that President Zingg prioritize instruction.  Similar events will be taking place on all 23 campuses of the CSU as well as UC campuses, College Community campuses and Universities in at least 7 other states.

Gregory Mark Tropea
Sept. 10, 1950 - April 23, 2010

Gregory Mark Tropea, long time CFA activist and campus Lecturer Representative, died Friday, April 23, at home surrounded by loving family and friends. Greg had struggled valiantly against the ravages of pancreatic cancer, which was first diagnosed in July 2008. He showed remarkable grace and courage during that long battle. He was 59 years old.

CFA Addresses Layoffs at Chico; Layoffs at Fresno, Too

CFA Lecturers’ Representative Curtis Peldo told the Trustees that at least nine lecturers received layoff notices part way through multi-year contracts at CSU Chico this month.

At Chico, layoff notices went to lecturers in Philosophy and Communication Design as well as the Theater Arts Department. In violation of the contract, the CSU administration notified CFA only of the layoffs in the first two departments, but not in Theater Arts.

Faculty Not Impacted By Gov's Furlough Order

Yesterday, Gov. Schwarzenegger ordered new furloughs for state civil service employees. However, the order doesn't extend to CSU employees because, unlike many other state agencies, the CSU and other public higher education segments generally are not under the direct executive authority of the governor.
