George Diehr has been re-elected to the CalPERS Board of Administration.
Ballots were opened earlier the first week of October and while unofficial samples showed Diehr to be a clear winner early on, the actual number of votes received by each candidate was not known until Friday morning.
Win the results of the election were disclosed Oct. 6, Diehr immediately turned his attention to thanking his supporters and setting goals for his second four-year term.
“I want to express my deep appreciation for the literally hundreds of university and state employees who worked so hard to assure my re-election,” he said.
“I also want to give a special thanks to thanks to my supporters at CFA and SEIU Local 1000. I look forward to serving on the state board for the next four years, and working even harder to protect your health benefits and retirement”
CFA learned of the result at 11 am today when President John Travis excused himself from an executive committee meeting to take a call from Diehr.
“George, won,” Travis exclaimed to a raucous applause from CFA officers upon re-entering the meeting.
“This is wonderful news,” said Travis. “It is gratifying that the majority of those voting in this election recognize the tremendous contributions George has made to CalPERS. He has done an excellent for all public employees in the state, especially those of us who work for the CSU.”
In addition to his CalPERS office Diehr is an business professor at CSU San Marcos, and an active CFA member.
