Student Organizing Coordinator (Southern California)/Apprenticeship Field Staff
Location: Southern California
Salary: $40s or higher, depending on experience
In 2001, CFA created the Tim Sampson Student Internship Program to build a statewide bridge between faculty and student issues. The goal of the program is to build alliances with students on campus by educating them about CFA and to mobilize student support in the greater CSU budget struggle. The program is coordinated by the Student Organizing Coordinators, North and South.
California Faculty Association seeks a Student Organizing Coordinator/Apprenticeship Field Staff (Southern California). The student coordinator position requires a wide variety of skills, including, but not limited to, recruitment and oversight of 10-15 student interns on campuses spread over hundreds of miles, the ability to develop regional plans, mentor interns, as well as develop their abilities as leaders. The ideal student coordinator candidate should be able to relate well with undergraduate student interns, identify with students and student life, and supervise them in a way that develops an intern’s organizing skills. Applicant must be a self-motivated, deadline-oriented individual with a willingness and desire to learn new skills, and work with people in academia and in labor unions. In addition to the important work organizing students, the position is considered a four to six year apprenticeship program, with preferential consideration in hiring for any open field staff representative position for individuals successfully completing the program.
