Issues
During the past decade, the line of preceding Governors have not upheld California’s promise to promote a strong Public Higher Education System. The extreme fee increases are Chancellor Reed’s legacy to California. Students are hopeful that a new Governor will mean a new future for Public Higher Education. We hope that Public Higher Education will be prioritized and will be viewed as a solution to California’s fiscal problems. In the past 8 years, students have experienced an increase of 249% in their fees, but have failed to see improvements in the quality of their education. What we want is an adequately funded Public Higher Education System: no more cuts to courses, programs, or teaching staff. Students are calling on the Board of Trustees to be transparent about their decision making policies because we understand that it is irresponsible decisions that have led to the deterioration of the California State University System.
Description of Event
Students will set up a Carnival outside the Board of Trustees meeting in order to represent the mockery that has been made of education. Several booths and games will also be set up in order to discuss the lack of transparency on behalf of the Trustees. The satire of the event is aimed to educate the community and provide an environment where students can advocate for the betterment of their education.
