CFA invites faculty members, staff and students to join Frances Fox Piven, Barbara Ehrenreich and student activists for a national teach-in on the jobs crisis and student activists’ fight for worker’s rights, equal access to education, fair taxation, and economic and social justice.

A webcast screening of this National Teach-In dubbed "Students Rising for Jobs and Economic Justice" will be 7–8:30 pm EDT. It will be web-streamed live from the University of California, Washington Center

On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a landmark aid package for struggling states that includes $10 billion in education jobs funding. The U.S. Department of Education estimates it save 161,000 jobs in public schools across the country.

NEA needs help now to save jobs in education

The National Education Association (NEA) urges faculty to contact their House Representative to implore them to support including education jobs funding for K-12 and Higher Education in the emergency supplemental appropriations (funding) bill.

If higher education jobs are included in the package, this bill could fund over 50,000 jobs in higher education – jobs that are critical for fulfilling the missions of our colleges and universities.

Tell Congress that this is an emergency -- the future of public education is at stake!

CFA goes to D.C. to advocate for federal funding

Last week, CFA joined in national efforts to secure increase federal funding for California to help cope with the state’s massive budget deficit.

CFA’s joined with both national and local allies including SEIU International, NEA and SEIU 1000 (California State Workers union) in an effort to secure federal funding through three bills that will save and create jobs and send much-needed fiscal relief to state and local governments.
