About 25 faculty members plus staff and student supporters held an informational picket line outside the CSU East Bay administration building to express their displeasure with Chancellor Charles Reed.
They protested his poor leadership and failure to work with faculty, students and staff to press for urgently needed CSU funding. Instead, he is demanding take-aways in bargaining with faculty and staff contracts - take-aways that are not necessary because of budget cuts.
“CSU students, faculty and staff are in the same boat, being pushed around by the same budget problems, and even worse, by the same bad leadership,” said CFA President Lillian Taiz. “The students are seeing their educations wrecked. Faculty and other employees are seeing our livelihoods destroyed. Students’ families and faculty’s families are asking if there is still a place in the middle class for us.”
Taiz points out, “While the battle over state funding is hurting our university, it’s not only that. CSU management is using the budget as an excuse to implement bad policies. We need university leaders who are working with us to keep this university strong—and public.”
