As the constitutional deadline to pass a state budget nears, Governor Jerry Brown will resume negotiations with legislators this week.

Republicans are again demanding a hard-and-fast spending cap as well as nebulously termed “regulatory reform” and “pension reform” in exchange for their eventual support of Brown's proposal to extend billions of dollars of taxes.

While nothing is certain in the state budget process – as CSU faculty know all too well – it is likely that negotiations will intensify in the coming weeks.
