Educators, parents, public safety workers and community leaders from across California will hold actions next week to publicize the local impacts of more than $18 billion in state budget education funding cuts during the last three years, and an additional $4 billion this year unless California’s citizens rise up to tell the legislature, “Enough is enough! No more cuts!”
“These drastic cuts are hurting our public schools, colleges, students and communities,” said CFA President Lillian Taiz. “A handful of Republican holdouts should not be able to hold California students and their futures hostage.”
Taiz continued, “It is essential that CSU faculty get involved with these activities and fight to protect vital K-16 funding.”
Five regional rallies are planned for Friday May 13 in Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Inland Empire and San Diego. Time and program for all five locations follows:
4 pm – Music and Entertainment
5 pm – Rally and Speakers
The events are part of a statewide “State of Emergency” week of protest coordinated by a broad coalition of state education, community, and labor groups, with educators, students and parents participating in a series of bold actions May 9-13.
The events include a sit-in at the State Capitol in Sacramento and regional rallies in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fresno and San Bernardino calling for a state budget that includes tax extensions to protect schools, colleges and public services from additional cuts.
