LECTURERS

Associate Vice President:
Elizabeth Hoffman (Long Beach, English Department/Center for Fac. Dev.)
email: ehoffman@csulb.edu
Office: 562-985-5692

Members of the statewide CFA Lecturers Council meet at least four times a year to share their expertise and experiences, build the organizational power necessary to protect the interests of Lecturer faculty, and work together with their colleagues and students in protecting public higher education.

About Lecturers

Lecturers — faculty with full- or part-time temporary appointments — are more than half of the faculty in the California State University system.

The California Faculty Association represents all faculty in the CSU, including lecturers. Our relationship with the CSU administration is governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement especially Articles 12 (Appointment), 15 (Evaluation), and 32 (Benefits).

We have summarized and annotated these articles and much else in the Lecturers' Handbook, which gives an overview of lecturer rights and benefits.

The Lecturers’ Council, which is comprised of elected Lecturers’ Representatives from each campus, has become increasingly involved in the national and international movements of contingent academic labor. The American Association of University Professors, to which CFA is affiliated, has done major research on this issue. CFA is a member of a broad network of activists, the Coalition of Contingent Academic Labor.
