The California Faculty Association (CFA) is the statewide organization that represents the 23,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches who teach in the CSU system. You can contact the SDSU chapter of CFA at 619-594-2775, or by e-mail at cfa@mail.sdsu.edu.
As the faculty bargaining agent, CFA negotiates collective bargaining agreements with the CSU administration, promotes academic freedom, upholds faculty rights, delivers financial protection for the faculty, and promotes faculty participation in the governance of the CSU and of CFA.
Please feel free to contact the campus CFA office at any time if we can provide assistance, whether on a contract rights issue or other matter. Our campus CFA chapter has a Faculty Rights Committee, composed of faculty volunteers, and we are available to talk with faculty colleagues about individual situations and assist in resolving issues.
If you are not yet a CFA member, I encourage you to join. The more members we have, the stronger our voice in advocating for faculty rights and a strong faculty contract. Also, CFA members receive benefits such as free professional liability insurance and the option of free membership in AAUP.
We are also the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). AAUP aims “to advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good.” CFA members may obtain free membership in the AAUP.
For information, advice, or assistance, please feel free to contact CFA at any time. Our office is located in Education 106 and we can be reached at cfa@mail.sdsu.edu or 619-594-2775.
Sincerely,
