CFA Update on Faculty Collective Action

Dear Colleague,

As you are most likely aware, the Chancellor recently rejected a second neutral fact-finder’s recommendations that faculty be paid part of the salary increases negotiated in our last contract. That action, his relentless push for hikes in student fees, and his lavish giveaways to executives bespeak a vision for the CSU that hurts students, faculty, and the CSU itself. That vision should not go unchallenged.

In the last several weeks, we have been asking you, our members, about your support for various actions, including a one day strike, we might take to send the Chancellor a strong message about our rejection of his vision and our collective demand that he pay the raises he negotiated.

It is now time to review your responses and to make decisions.

Toward that end, the CFA Officers have called a special meeting of the CFA Board of Directors for early Monday morning, November 7, to review the voting results and to make decisions about specific actions to be taken this fall.

At 12:00 noon on November 7, Lillian Taiz, President of CFA, will make a public announcement about the Board’s decisions. You will receive a personal email containing this announcement.

For the thousands of you who have already voted about faculty actions, thank you!

For those of you who have not yet voted, please take a moment to fill out the e-card at www.calfac.org/enoughisenoughcard. It’s very easy and will only take a couple of minutes of your time. Please vote now so that your response can be considered as part of the CFA Board of Directors’ deliberations.

We also strongly urge all CSU faculty to attend the informational picketing that will take place on all 23 campuses on November 8 and 9.

We are confident that the numbers of faculty participating on November 8 and 9 will make this the largest collective action ever taken by CSU faculty. Please do join us and be part of these history-making events!

You can find specific details—date, time, and place–for each campus at http://www.calfac.org/novinfopicket. For more information, you can also contact your CFA campus chapter.

Thanks to you all for your support, your commitment to the CSU, and for your actions in defense of our vision of the CSU. Our strength truly is our membership!

Sincerely,
CFA Officers
