Steps that Lecturers should take to protect their work

Even if you have already been told you will be teaching in the Fall, CFA strongly recommends that all Lecturers do the following:

1) Review your department’s course offerings and list all of the courses that you’re qualified to teach and interested in teaching.  If your department is divided into different program areas, your list should include classes that you are qualified to teach throughout all of your department’s program areas;

2) Send an e-mail to your department chair stating that you would like to be re-appointed for the 2016-17 academic year and assigned any available work, up to and including a full-time assignment.  In your e-mail, include the list of courses you are qualified to teach. (Again, do this regardless of whether you have already been told you will be teaching in the Fall.);

3) Ask the chair whether any additional information or notification is needed from you.
