Action Alert

School is out. Watch for budget updates & ‘Action Alerts’ over the summer

With the Governor’s May budget revision now revealed and classes out of session at all but a handful of CSU campuses, the focus of CFA now shifts to the members of the state legislature.

State lawmakers will devote the next month to budget hearings. At some point the state Assembly and Senate each will vote on budget bills. Then “conference committees” will attempt to reconcile the two houses’ and governor’s budget plans.

Since California is one of just three states to require a two-thirds vote of each house to pass the budget, the debate over the budget could continue through the summer.

As the debate in the state legislature over funding for public higher education intensifies, there will be more times to take action all through the summer until a budget decision is finally made.
