Assembly Hearing on campus climate this Friday at San Jose

The State Assembly Committee on Campus Climate will hold the first of four public hearings this Friday, March 21 on the San Jose State campus from 12:30 to 3 pm at Morris Daily auditorium.

California state Assemblymember and CFA member Shirley Weber heads the committee, which was formed, according to a news release from her office, “to explore issues of diversity, tolerance and student safety at the state’s college campuses after a series of bias-motivated incidents in recent years, including a serious incident at San Jose State last fall involving an assault on an African-American.”

In addition to Weber, Assemblymembers Nora Campos, Phil Ting and Paul Fong will attend. Various panels will testify and there will be time for open comment from those who attend.

CFA urges faculty and the campus community to participate in the hearing.

“Please share word of this hearing with colleagues at San Jose and nearby CSU campuses,” says CFA Vice President Kim Geron. “Legislators need to hear from us.”
