Bargaining Update
Feb 4, 2014

CFA’s Bargaining Team met with the management team for two days in Long Beach on January 30-31. As it has been so far, the CFA negotiators found the meetings to be professional and cordial.

The sides devoted much of last Thursday to discussing the grievance and discipline articles in the faculty contract. Both sides agreed that settling disciplinary actions and grievances quickly is important for the university system and for the efficacy of the process. Each side had ideas about ways to accomplish this goal.

CFA Bargaining Team chair Andy Merrifield reported, “We reached a tentative agreement to allow electronic transmission of the grievance form and we agreed to look at revising the form for clarity and efficiency. Talks will continue on other grievance and discipline issues.”

On Friday, CFA made a presentation on salary issues that demonstrated the value of Service Step Increases (SSI) and General Salary Increases (GSI) to our faculty.

Merrifield noted, “The CSU management team agreed with our data and the general findings. We also agreed that we should continue to discuss salary to deal with short-, medium- and long-term issues.”

CFA notified the management team that in the next round of bargaining in mid-February, CFA’s Team will continue with workload issues raised in earlier sessions.
