Campus Equity Week kicked off in California with a rally Monday at San Francisco State and Tuesday with packed crowds for panels at Cal State Los Angeles and CSU Dominguez Hills.

CFA President Lillian Taiz opened the first California event Monday saying, “What unifies us all across the country this week is a belief that a two-tiered system will destroy meaningful access for millions of working people, robbing them and our society of the benefits quality higher education can provide.”

Events in California and across the nation took up:

• crushing student debt now totaling more than $1 trillion
• low pay and poor working conditions for vast numbers of college faculty hired on short-term contingent contracts
• poor use of online teaching tools by college executives and for-profit promoters
• dismantling ethnic studies departments
• starving public colleges & universities of proper funding
