CFA Activist Chris Cox named 2017 Outstanding Lecturer

CFA Activist and San Jose State faculty member Chris Cox has been named 2017 Outstanding Lecturer for his excellence in teaching effectiveness and service to the San Jose State campus.

Cox, who teaches Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, will be honored with the award during the 18th Annual Faculty Service Recognition and Awards Luncheon on March 9.

Cox was also featured in San Jose State’s Washington Square alumni magazine, which described him as an “advocate for higher education” and a leader in service learning.

Preston Rudy, CFA Chapter President at San Jose State, said Cox is fully involved in his department and in the CFA chapter.

“Students are drawn to Professor Cox because he presents course material clearly and weaves that social science into exciting discussions contemporary society,” said Rudy, who also teaches in the Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. “In our department and in CFA he helps us all clarify issues, keeps us grounded in real problems, and offers a forceful sense of social justice to our deliberations. Chris raises difficult topics by skillfully helping all of us see how we are all implicated, building solidarity and mobilizing us to act.”
