CFA to host briefing on equity in California public higher education

CFA will be holding a briefing Thursday, Feb. 23 at the State Capitol on trends within the CSU and the future of public higher education in California.

The forum, “Equity in California Higher Education: Where We Were, Where We Are, and a Pathway to Free Higher Education,” is open to lawmakers and their staff, as well as faculty and students. The briefing will be held at 1:30 pm in Room 444 at the Capitol.

Panelists include:

  • Assembly Member Jose Medina, chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee
  • Alma Hernández, Executive Director of SEIU California
  • Robert Shireman, Senior Fellow at The Century Foundation
  • Melina Abdullah, Professor and Chair of Pan-African Studies at Cal State LA, Black Lives Matter leader/organizer
  • Margarita Berta-Avila, Professor of Bilingual Multicultural Education at Sacramento State University

The briefing will also include discussion of findings and trends from CFA’s new report, “Equity, Interrupted: How California Is Cheating Its Future.”
