Faculty Rights Tip of the week: Salary increase at promotion

This weekly CFA Headlines feature offers a brief “faculty rights tip” or short information piece about the faculty contract.


Article 31.5 of the Faculty Contract assures that faculty will be granted a minimum salary increase of 7.5% upon promotion:

“31.5 Promotion shall be accompanied by advancement of at least seven and one- half percent (7.5%) on the salary schedule.”

Note that 7.5% is a minimum, not a maximum amount.  There is nothing that prevents faculty from requesting a greater salary increase upon promotion.  While there is no guarantee that a larger increase will be granted, it is a wonderful opportunity for the administration to address issues of salary stagnation, compression, and inversion.
