Hearing on diversity, tolerance to be held at San Jose State

Students, faculty and the public are invited to attend an informational meeting hosted by the Assembly Select Committee on Campus Climate at San Jose State. The meeting, the first of four to be held throughout the state in coming months, will explore issues of diversity, tolerance and student safety at the state’s college campuses, according to a news release by Assemblymember Shirley N. Weber, chair of the committee.

The meeting at San Jose State is tentatively scheduled from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. March 21 at the Morris Daily Auditorium, One Washington Square.

The meetings are spurred by several bias-motivated incidents in recent years, including an assault on an African-American student at San Jose State last fall.

“Our mission is to ensure that the state’s college campuses are safe and welcoming environments for all students,” said Weber, who also was among featured speakers during CFA’s Equity Conference.
