Help for displaced faculty, students in Nor Cal

With faculty and students among those impacted by the Oroville Dam evacuations, it’s important to note that there are resources and support available.

CFA members have access to the California Teachers Association’s disaster relief fund through our affiliation with CTA. The fund provides financial assistance for members who have been displaced for more than seven days. To qualify, members will have to be relocated for seven days before the assistance kicks in retroactively, and members should keep all receipts.

“The Oroville dam crisis was a stressful time for faculty and their families and we are continuing to do everything we can to help,” said CFA Treasurer Susan Green, who teaches at Chico State, one of the campuses with faculty impacted by the flood danger.

The CFA Chico Chapter also made a donation to the North Valley Community Foundation to help members of the community displaced by the evacuation. “We will remain vigilant to discover other ways we can contribute to the food and housing security of our members and neighbors,” wrote Tim Sistrunk, President of the CFA Chico Chapter.
