Signature collecting underway to extend Prop. 30

Proposition 30, the ballot initiative four years ago that temporarily increased sales tax and income tax on upper income earners, is due to expire, and with it the support it lends to public education.

A new initiative, “The Children’s’ Education and Health Care Protection Act of 2016” would extend the upper income earner income tax portion of Prop. 30 (not the sales tax). CFA affiliated unions, SEIU California and CTA, are collecting signatures to qualify for the November 2016 ballot, and ask CFA members to please sign when asked.

While this initiative does not include funds for the CSU, if the measure does not pass, there could be a significant hole in the state general fund leaving less money available that could go to the CSU.
