Five-Year Contracts, Reclassification Highlight Latest CFA Bargaining Proposals

The CFA Bargaining Team continues to center a faculty rights first focus with our latest proposals to CSU management, pursuing career advancement opportunities and added years onto contingent faculty contracts.

At a February 26 session with CSU management, CFA submitted three proposals for our next Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA): reclassification for “temporary” faculty, five-year contracts after nine years of employment, and a “foot in the door” opportunity when there are tenure-line openings.

Coalitions Build Around COVID-19 Relief

While the CFA Bargaining Team keeps working to advance equity and faculty rights at the negotiating table, CFA leaders continue pressing Chancellor Joseph I. Castro and campus presidents to provide COVID-19 relief to working parents and caregivers.

After a statewide town hall, email campaign, open letter from faculty, and a news report from EdSource, CFA chapters are building parent and caregiver groups and labor coalitions.

Faculty Rights Tip of the Week: Safety

Article 37 of our Collective Bargaining Agreement covers workplace safety for all Unit 3 faculty members — instructional faculty, counselors, librarians, and coaches.

It is the administration’s responsibility to ensure that faculty members are not required to work in unsafe conditions or perform tasks that endanger health or safety.
