Dear Colleagues: After this week, CFA Headlines takes a summer break and will resume on August 16. The CFA web site will provide news updates and if something big happens, a Special Edition of CFA Headlines will come your way. Pay raises coming July 1

There is more than one way faculty members may benefit from the salary gains won in the latest faculty collective bargaining agreement, and now is a good time to take note.

On July 1, all faculty on CSU payroll will receive a 3.5% general salary increase (GSI).

Immigrants-rights advocates are calling for supporters to attend a hearing being held this Friday, June 9 by immigration authorities against detained activist and Cal State LA student Claudia Rueda.

CFA-sponsored AB 21 to protect all CSU students passes State Assembly

Assembly Bill 21: “Access to Higher Education for Every Student” passed the California State Assembly late last week with a vote of 55 to 23.

AAUP invites CFA members: Sign open letter opposing federal budget cuts, deadline June 13

California Faculty Association members and all higher education faculty are invited to sign an open letter to ranking members of budget committees in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate.

The deadline to sign the letter is June 13. AAUP will deliver the letter to lawmakers on Capitol Hill on June 15.

CSU San Bernardino faculty vote no-confidence in campus president

By a vote of 181 to 113, faculty members at CSU San Bernardino have voted to express no confidence in campus president Tomás D. Morales. The vote was conducted by the campus Academic Senate after a period of debate.

Chancellor Timothy White has announced he will visit the campus on June 9, when he will meet with faculty members, President Morales, and other groups.

Cal State LA announces freeze on undergrad enrollment in January 2018

In a decision that may be a harbinger of things to come for other CSU campuses, Cal State LA’s administration announced last week that “all undergraduate programs will be close for admission” next spring.

Faculty Rights Tip: Were You Denied Tenure or Promotion This Year?

As the summer begins, probationary faculty and faculty up for promotion should continue to check your campus mail regularly.

Final notifications for the award of retention, tenure, or a final terminal year come no later than June 1. Final notifications for promotion come no later than June 15.

If you receive a final notice and were denied tenure and/or promotion during this year’s review cycle you should contact your CFA faculty rights representative immediately.

Small CFA dues rate increase goes into effect this summer

Effective July 2017, the rate of CFA member dues will increase by 0.3% (three-tenths of one percent).

Delegates to the 85th CFA Assembly took this action in light of a political climate that has become increasingly hostile toward unions, public education, and even the truth. Increasing CFA resources to fight back is one way to help protect faculty.
