CSU budget must get additional funding

CFA activists are hard at work again this week to ensure lawmakers understand the critical need to reinvest in the CSU.

CFA to lawmakers: Counseling services need critical support

CFA submitted information to the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Tuesday about counseling services in the CSU and the critical need to hire more full-time, tenure-line counselors for the system’s 23 campuses.

While the International Association of Counseling Services recommends a maximum ratio of 1,500 students for each full-time equivalent counselor on campus, only three of the 23 campuses meet that standard. At Cal State LA, there are only 7.5 full-time counseling positions for over 27,000 students; at CSU Sacramento, there are 11 positions for more than 30,000 students.

Is three minutes of your time worth $325 million?

Faculty, students, alumni, and allies have been taking a few minutes to write Gov. Jerry Brown, encouraging him to fully fund the $325 million augmentation to the CSU’s 2017-18 budget.

Letters have been coming into CFA headquarters from across the state, from handwritten notes to emails, all bearing a similar message: It’s time to invest in the CSU.

Campus bargaining meetings inspire ideas, motivation

Want to learn more about the union’s upcoming contract work and what could be impacted? Head to a CFA chapter bargaining meeting.

Three meetings are planned this week, including bargaining updates at East Bay and Stanislaus today, and at Cal State LA on Thursday.

Meetings also are scheduled for San Jose on May 17 and at San Luis Obispo on May 25.

As summer nears, we are reminded that there is a yearly rhythm and cycle to our work.

There are three types of “Work Years” in our Collective Bargaining Agreement:
