About Grievances

The proper way to challenge a violation of the contract is to file a grievance. 

A violation can be an unfair denial of tenure or promotion, a failure to give temporary faculty members work to which they are entitled, or an unjust discipline meted out against any employee.​

Under Article 10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (contract or CBA), CFA and the employer have agreed to define a grievance as “an allegation that the CFA, an employee, or a group of employees, have been directly wronged by a claimed violation, misapplication, or misinterpretation of a specific term or provision of this Agreement.” 

Additionally, employees may allege “that the employee was directly wronged in connection with the rights accruing to his or her job classification, benefits, working conditions, appointment, reappointment, tenure, promotion, reassignment, or the like, including but not limited to rights arising under this Agreement.”
