Affirming Change: Taking Action for Social Justice
Council for Affirmative Action • Spring 2016 Equity Conference

SAVE THE DATES!

Friday, March 18, 10:30a – Saturday, March 19, 6:00p

Westin Bonaventure, Los Angeles

Conference Narrative:

The ongoing violent acts targeted at communities of color, and in particular Black males, by law enforcement again have brought to light the need for diverse communities across the country to come together for systemic change and organized social justice action.

The Black Lives Matter movement, DACA Dreamers, and other coalitions have been on the move in the halls of power and, most importantly, in the streets to demand justice.

Upcoming California legislative efforts, to repeal decades old egregious laws including Prop 209, the 1996 anti-affirmative action mandate, and Prop 227, the 1998 anti-bilingual education initiative, are indicators of a changing political climate across the state.

The 2016 CFA Equity Conference is a clarion call for us to analyze, mobilize, strategize and take action in support of these and other efforts and struggles for social justice.

In addition, we must continue to take action for equity, access, and fairness in the California State University system for students, faculty, and staff.

Conference Participation

The Council for Affirmative Action commits to sponsoring up to five (5) persons from each chapter to attend. Chapter presidents will be sponsored by their own local chapters. Moreover, the Council’s Executive Board strongly encourages chapter presidents to invite current or prospective activist colleagues to participate in the conference. In addition, chapters are strongly encouraged to support at their expense additional faculty (beyond the 5 supported by CAA) with whom it wishes to build stronger activists relationships.
