Post Election Statement
November 14, 2016

Dear Colleagues,

In the aftermath of a long, rancorous, and bitter presidential campaign and election, our country is deeply divided. However, I am reminded that as CFA members, we are united by our strong belief in solidarity. We understand that when we struggle together, we are much more powerful than when we act alone. As union members, we fight for dignity, respect, and safety for everyone in our diverse campus community but also in our city, state, nation, and world. We stand with and strongly support the most vulnerable and marginalized, because we know that an injury to one is an injury to all.

As faculty, counselors, coaches, and librarians, we share a deep commitment to ALL of our students, as we work to provide educational access, and equity at SFSU and throughout the CSU.

Our goal is to provide students with the skills that they will need to understand, navigate, and succeed in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.

San Francisco State has a long, proud history of struggling for racial and social justice. In these very trying times, we must collectively imagine the society that we want to live in and work to make that vision a reality on our campus and in the larger world. This means speaking out and acting against injustice where ever and whenever we see it – facing hatred and fear with love and courage.

As we look ahead, we can expect escalating attacks on unions and collective bargaining across the country. I am determined, as CFA-SFSU chapter president to continue the work of building a strong faculty union on this campus. I invite you to join me and other CFA activists in this project. To get more involved contact

CFA-SFSU will continue to work with the San Francisco Labor Council and Jobs with Justice –SF to fight on behalf of all working people.

In union,

Sheila R. Tully

Chapter President
