ARTICLE 12 of the CBA establishes procedures and protections for lecturer appointment rights.

  • Details the rules and regulations for acquiring and maintaining 3 year and 1 year appointments.
  • Details criteria for range elevations.
  • Outlines procedures for preference for work and the order in which assignments are made.

If you are a lecturer and have a 3 year or 1 year contract, or have received a range elevation, or ever wonder why you get to be assigned work in your department before someone brand new, it’s because of CFA and our work improving lecturer rights through ARTICLE 12 of the CBA.

Without ARTICLE 12, lecturers could (and probably would):

  • Be at-will employees with no established rules for continuing work or multi-year contracts.
  • Have no rights to salary increases awarded on the basis of service and longevity.
