Next Chancellor of 23-campus California State University Announced
Faculty welcome 'new and constructive era for public higher ed'

The CSU Board of Trustees announced today that the next chancellor of the 23-campus California State University system will be Timothy P. White, the current chancellor of the University of California-Riverside.

CFA President Lillian Taiz, a history professor at Cal State Los Angeles, said, “We welcome the new chancellor to the California State University and look forward to a new and constructive era for public higher education in our state.

“Given Dr. White’s background in public higher education, we are hopeful that he will understand the needs of the CSU and will establish a goal of unifying everyone behind our critical educational mission, particularly during these difficult times,” she added.

The announcement came after closed meetings at the Chancellor’s Office in Long Beach.

Taiz said, “While we wish that the CSU Trustees had been more transparent in making its selection, we are, nevertheless eager to work with the new chancellor to rebuild the California State University to serve our economy, democracy and all the people of California.”

Current CSU Chancellor Charles Reed announced in May that he will retire when a replacement is named. Reed has been at the top of the CSU structure for 14 years. During this time, the CSU has struggled to live up to its mission to provide Californians with broad, affordable access to quality public higher education.
