Contract Bargaining Update

CFA’s Bargaining Team met with the CSU management team on January 30-31, in Long Beach.  The CFA negotiators found the meetings to be professional and cordial.

The sides devoted much of the first day to discussing the grievance and discipline articles in the faculty contract. Both sides agreed that settling disciplinary actions and grievances quickly is important for the university system and for the efficacy of the process. Each side had ideas about ways to accomplish this goal.

On the second day of bargaining, CFA made a presentation on salary issues that demonstrated the value of Service Step Increases (SSI) and General Salary Increases (GSI) to our faculty.  CFA Bargaining Team Chair Andy Merrifield noted, “The CSU management team agreed with our data and the general findings. We also agreed that we should continue to discuss salary to deal with short-, medium- and long-term issues.”

CFA notified the management team that in the next round of bargaining in mid-February, CFA’s Team will discuss workload issues raised in earlier sessions.
