United We Won!
Letter from CFA President Eagan

Dear Colleague,

Wow, this has been quite a ride!  This year has seen perhaps the most dramatic campaign in CFA’s history.

Thanks to you, we not only won our Fight for Five, but also a longer term salary package that takes an important step toward normalizing our wages. And, perhaps more than that, CSU faculty demonstrated without a doubt that we are a force to be reckoned with; disrespect us at your own peril. We are prepared to do what it takes to ensure our ability to provide quality education for our students.

There are a lot of people to thank for our success, including our students, our incredible CFA staff, our supporters in the legislature, and our labor and community allies.  They all played critical roles in advocating on our behalf.

One thing is for certain—without your activism and dedication, we would not have won this campaign.  Think of all your activity this year—voting for strike authorization, wearing red, showing up for events in solidarity with your colleagues, preparing to strike—that forced the Chancellor and the CSU Board of Trustees to take the threat very seriously. To top it off, you turned out en masse and voted for ratification. Faculty across the system have been passionate, smart, and amazing.

If all of you were not willing to take on this fight we would have had no choice but to accept the offer of 2%. Instead, united, we won for our students, our families, and for our system.

That is not to say that there is no work left to be done.  In the coming year, with your help, CFA will focus on strengthening the CSU for the future – serving our students, championing faculty rights, defending academic freedom, protecting programs and curricula, and honoring faculty governance.

I hope that everyone enjoys their summer and comes back refreshed and ready to build a better CSU.

In Solidarity,

Jennifer Eagan
