Union Colleagues,

Our campus union siblings need our support!

Teamsters union members across the CSU are going on strike Tuesday, February 17 through Friday, February 20. Teamsters are the skilled trades workers who keep our heating, cooling, restrooms, plumbing, lighting, electricity, and key access across campus working. They are fighting for the real raises and salary steps they are contractually owed, not the one-time payment the CSU offered them (and CFA!).

Teamsters need our support, now. Pledge here to support the Teamsters at Sacramento State, and show up on the picket line during your breaks from Tuesday, February 17th through Friday, February 20th, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, at the J Street entrance to campus. Wear your CFA Red! We especially need folks out Wednesday at noon for the rally.

Teamsters have always had our backs during our job actions and have shown up in droves to ensure we get the respect we deserve as faculty. It’s time for us to demonstrate our solidarity and hold the line when they need us the most!

FAQ:

How can I support the Teamsters?

  • Pledge to support the Teamsters here.
  • Come out to the Picket Line at the J Street entrance to campus during your breaks February 17th through February 20th, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, wearing CFA red.
  • Bring your colleagues!
  • We especially want folks to come out on Wednesday 2/18 at noon for the big rally to put pressure on!
  • Hold your class at the picket line, if relevant.
  • You can also download and print graphic above and put it on your office door, your car dashboard in the parking lot, etc to make your support visible.

Why is it so cold in campus buildings? 🥶

  • Our heat, and other campus comforts, depend on their labor! Teamster labor ensures that the boiler rooms on campus run safely. Without their labor, campus heat will likely be shut off Monday 2/17-Friday 2/20 for safety purposes.
  • Are you cold and frustrated? Come out to the picket line or email Chancellor Garcia encouraging her to give the Teamsters the raises they deserve now!

Why aren’t buses going to campus during the strike?

  • Because Sacramento Regional Transit bus drivers are union workers and want to be in solidarity with the Teamsters, they will not be crossing the picket line onto the J Street entrance of campus. There will be a temporary bus stop outside of the J Street entrance.  Please visit The Sac RT Website closer to the strike dates for more on these alternative bus dropoff/pickup locations
  • Additionally, many deliveries will not be accepted during the strike

Can I use a paid sick day to join the picket line?

  • No, you cannot.

Can I use my personal day on one of the strike days?

  • Yes, you can, but only with mutual agreement with management.

What should I wear to the picket line?

  • Wear a red CFA t-shirt or any article of clothing with a CFA logo. The strike is rain or shine, so dress accordingly. Given the pending rain, consider warmer clothes like jackets, hats, gloves, and other warm clothes. We will have CFA ponchos to give out, but if you have one, please bring it!

What do I do once I’m at the picket line?

  • Sign in at the CFA table, then grab a strike sign and find a picket captain for more info (they will usually wear uniforms that designate them as picket captains). Follow strike leader instructions to make sure everyone stays safe and on-message.
