Academic freedom is foundational to work in the academy. With it, we are able to create and disseminate knowledge, teach difficult and controversial subject matter, and have the voice to explore world knowledge from many perspectives. Today, the rights of academic freedom are glaringly important. With this in mind we proposed a standalone academic freedom article in contract negotiations. Learn more.
CFA seeks to address bias in student course evaluations, particularly to remedy the problems that faculty who identify as women, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) faculty have in receiving feedback informed by bias. Learn more.
The fight for free higher public education is a racial justice issue. There exists a decades-long trend in the CSU and other higher education institutions across the United States of declining enrollments amongst Black, Native, and Indigenous students. The necessity for students to take out student debt directly contributes to continuing racial wealth gaps. Free public education is a necessary step in creating true educational access and equity.
