What CFA Fights For
Learn about some of CFA’s campaigns, from our continued push for quality higher education to anti-racism and social justice.
As a social justice union, representing faculty in the California State University System, we are dedicated to anti-racism and social justice. We purposefully center and extend our anti-racism social justice work to address the structural racism that shapes our society and the CSU. Learn more.
Academic freedom is foundational to work in the academy. With it, we are able to create and disseminate knowledge, teach difficult and controversial subject matter, and have the voice to explore world knowledge from many perspectives. Today, the rights of academic freedom are glaringly important. With this in mind we proposed a standalone academic freedom article in contract negotiations. Learn more.
CFA seeks to address bias in student course evaluations, particularly to remedy the problems that faculty who identify as women, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) faculty have in receiving feedback informed by bias. Learn more.
The fight for free higher public education is a racial justice issue. The necessity for students to take out student debt directly contributes to continuing racial wealth gaps. Free public education is a necessary step in creating true educational access and equity. Events over the last several years in America clearly indicate the need for all of us to be culturally literate and knowledgeable of different races, ethnicities, and perspectives (of what it means to live in America). Institutional racism and other “isms” continue to compromise the life possibilities for many. Learn more.
