The CSR responsibilities are communicated by the CFA campus Field Representative, Regional Director and/or Lead and will work in coordination with the CFA Chapter Executive Board or CAT team which organizes and represents approximately 29,000 faculty, librarians, counselors, and coaches.
General Summary
The CSR is a non-exempt part-time position.
The position ensures that the California Faculty Association’s (CFA) member recruitment and contract campaign organizing goals are executed through the work of the CSR and chapter that they are assigned to support. Overall, the position will support and help add capacity to well-functioning ongoing priorities for new member recruitment and organizing support.
Rate of Pay: $25.00 hour
Hours Per Week: 19 hours per week.
**Any alterations to the scheduled days/hours must receive prior approval by the Field Representative, Regional Director and/or Lead
**A vehicle is needed for this position as campus assignments may vary based on campaign needs
Job Functions and Essential Duties
Recruitment of Members and Support of CFA Contract Campaign
- Daily hall walking campus buildings to engage in organizing program and/or recruitment discussions with non-members
- Non-member target lists and tracking form provided during check ins
- Provides welcoming experience and exceptional service to non-members
Required meeting attendance
- Attends membership organizing committee meetings as required
- Attends monthly luncheons, workshops, and other activities – coordinates with field representative and office manager to identify rsvp’s, work turnout plan of faculty to engage with during the event
- Attends Executive Board meetings to provide updated reports on progress
- Report on progress made in chapter goal of recruitment
- Events/activities in which membership organizing committee has scheduled for the upcoming month
- What has been successful for recruitment and what has not
Reporting
- Friday weekly – turn in tracking form from prior weeks and workplan for upcoming week to Regional Director, Field Representative, and Chapter President
- Weekly check in with field rep (and occasionally chapter president) – meeting will be to discuss and review progress on weekly work goals, recruitment goals using tracking form, workplans and hall walking scheduling for the upcoming weeks, overcoming any obstacles to recruitment
- Weekly check-in with Regional Organizing Director and team meetings as needed
Office Organization and Administrative/ Clerical Duties (when needed)
- Keeps track of all conversations with faculty including dates, times, issues/concerns and follow up, if any, that is needed
- Communication with Executive Board members who have volunteered to assist in activities as to time, date, location i.e. tabling event, appreciation event, etc.
- Communicates to Field Representative if supplies are needed i.e. membership cards, pens/pencils, paper, binders, etc.
- Updates and maintains the CFA bulletin boards in each campus building with membership recruitment materials
- Other duties as assigned

Location: Southern California
CFA is seeking a field representative (organizer), preferably experienced in the public sector. CFA’s field representatives work with our chapter leadership on campuses to protect and enforce our collective bargaining agreement, to identify, engage, and develop new leaders, and develop stronger chapters through issue-based organizing.
Applicants must be self-motivated, deadline-oriented individuals with the capacity to work with people in academia.
Essential Job Duties:
- Files grievances and represents members in level 1 grievance matters and faculty rights meetings, develops MOUs, and assists in meet and confers;
- Develops and implements organizing strategies and campaign plans;
- Recruits and retains members;
- Identifies, recruits and develops faculty to participate in CFA chapter and statewide activities;
- Develops and implements organizing plans for turnout at chapter and statewide events;
- Organizes and facilitates meetings;
- Participates and/ or assists with statewide organizing campaigns, events, and activities;
- Assists with membership recruitment, faculty organizing and political campaigns;
- Supports and promotes CFA’s principles of Anti-Racism/Social Justice Transformation, including intentionally working to ground anti-racist and social justice values into the everyday work of CFA;
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships with CFA officers, members, interns and staff.
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- A strong commitment to advancing racial and social justice transformation in the union movement, the university and beyond;
- Skill and experience organizing internal field campaigns (political, contract enforcement, membership, community/labor, and developing member leaders;
- Skill and experience in strategic thinking, organizational development, campaign development and long term planning;
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines and numerical goals;
- Working knowledge of organizing practices, including recruitment of non-members;
- Excellent verbal and analytical skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively, creatively, and strategically with CFA officers, members, interns and staff;
- Ability to travel frequently (weekly basis) and work long and irregular hours, including evenings, overnights, and some weekends.

Location: Sacramento
CFA seeks a Research Specialist. CFA’s Research Specialist will work in a department that is responsible for conducting comprehensive applied research and studies in support of CFA’s collective bargaining, representation, legislative and communications programs. The department is also responsible for collecting and analyzing financial information related to the California State University and higher education as well as other factors that influence the decision making in the system.
Applicant must be a self-motivated, deadline-oriented individual with a willingness and desire to learn new skills, and work with people in academia, labor unions, and with members to bring them into the work.
The Research Specialist requires contemporary research experience within the public sector, preferably in higher education/labor issues, along with the following skills and qualities:

- Conduct research that is both qualitative and quantitative in nature, using a wide variety of research resources and methods.
- Provide research support for bargaining, representation, legislation, and communications programs.
- Creatively analyze financial and other quantitative data to identify facts and patterns relevant to CFA goals and mission.
