CFA Members Restart Statewide Communications Committee

CFA members relaunched the statewide Communications Committee this semester with the goal of supporting internal and external messaging.
Under the bylaws, the committee is tasked with helping CFA develop and maintain relationships with the labor community and other organizations, identify opportunities for CFA presence at events, maintain an effective media presence, and ensure that messaging across the union accurately portrays CFA’s policies, positions, and purposes.
Loren Cannon, CFA Secretary and Cal Poly Humboldt Philosophy lecturer faculty, chairs the committee.
“Communicating the realities of our working conditions to our members, students, and to all Californians is crucial to improving those conditions and providing the very best education to our students,” said Cannon. “The new Communications Committee is supportive of making sure our impactful stories are heard through a variety of mediums and contexts.”
CFA members participating in the committee include:
- Christina Ceisel, CFA Fullerton Chapter President and Communications professor
- Thomas Corrigan, CFA San Bernardino Communications Coordinator and Media and Communication professor
- Joseph Navarro, CFA San Jose Membership and Organizing Co-Chair and English and Comparative Literature lecturer faculty
- Chris Patterson, CFA Sacramento Communications Chair and Communication Studies lecturer faculty
- Linh Phan, CFA Pomona and San Bernardino member and Physics lecturer faculty
- Marc Scarcelli, CFA Pomona Communications Committee Chair and Political Science professor
- Preeti Sharma, CFA AVP of Racial and Social Justice, South and CSU Long Beach American Studies professor
- Nate Thomas, CFA Northridge Chapter President and Cinema and Television Arts professor
Some members of the committee planned and presented a media spokesperson workshop at the Fall 2026 CFA Assembly. Along with the CFA Communications Department, Cannon, Patterson, and Navarro worked on the training, which explained the importance of consistent and clear messaging in the media as we ramp up our contract campaign.
The committee will provide invaluable support not just in our current fight to Fund the Classroom, but in CFA’s communications work beyond.
