CFA members, students, and staff joined Teamsters Local 2010 members on the picket line Tuesday in solidarity for our fight for fair contracts.

Teamsters members are the 1,100 skilled trade CSU workers and include mechanics, carpenters, painters, electricians, and plumbers.

CFA Long Beach Co-President Claire Garrido-Ortega joined a group of CFA members on the picket line.

“CFA members chanted, drummed, and hollered with the Teamsters today because we’ve been building power and participating with one another in our shared need to achieve better working conditions and improved pay,” said Garrido-Ortega, CSU Long Beach lecturer. “We are bargaining for the CSU we all deserve and can be proud of.”

This is a pivotal moment in their labor organizing. We strongly support their fight and are united in solidarity for a better CSU.

“Labor solidarity is very important.  All workers in the CSU deserve a living wage that keeps up with inflation.  Today we showed that workers will stand together,” said Nicholas Von Glahn, CFA Pomona president and Cal Poly Pomona professor.

The Teamsters ULP strike comes shortly after 94 percent of Teamsters members voted to authorize a strike.

CSU trustees and management will hear our call – it’s time to invest in public higher education, in the students, faculty, and staff at the CSU!
