Open Enrollment for CalPERS Health Benefits Has Begun
It’s annual open enrollment time for CalPERS-covered employees, which includes CSU faculty.
Open Enrollment began September 15 and runs through October 10. Now is your opportunity to:
- Change health plans/providers
- Add or change dependents on your health plan
- Add or change beneficiaries on your pension
CalPERS provides and administers a variety of benefit programs and services for public employees. Healthcare providers negotiate rates directly with CalPERS (CFA and other unions are not involved). Health plan premiums in 2026 will have an overall weighted premium rate increase of 8.21% compared to 2025.
The CalPERS Board of Administration approves health plan premiums. Because CFA members don’t have the ability to bargain over healthcare rates, it is critical that we elect CalPERS board members who advocate for public employees. CFA has endorsed David Miller and Troy Jonhson in the CalPERS 2025 Member-at-Large Election ending on September 29.
Also, the CFA Bargaining Team is aware of the rising CalPERS healthcare rates and will keep them in mind as they continue crafting proposals for raises that can help offset them. You can find updates on bargaining here.
For more information on making changes to your health plan and pension, check out resources on the CalPERS Open Enrollment website like the Open Enrollment guide video. Retirees can access the CalPERS Open Enrollment site for retirees.
