One Officer Charged, But Grand Jury Declines to Charge Any Officers Directly for Murder of Breonna Taylor
Today, a Kentucky grand jury brought zero charges against three Louisville police officers for the killing of Breonna Taylor. Instead, one officer, Brett Hankison – who was fired in June – was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment for firing into the neighboring homes of Taylor. The FBI is still investigating potential federal violations in this case.
CFA is not surprised, yet still deeply disturbed and disappointed by the lack of equal justice by the judicial system, and the lack of care, the lack of respect, and the lack of protection for an innocent Black woman in America. We continue to mourn the death of Taylor, a 26-year-old who worked as an EMT in Louisville during the ongoing COVID pandemic. She aspired to continue her public service by becoming a nurse. Her life was cut way too short like many Black men and women killed by police brutality.
Systemic change will happen in this country. Justice will happen in this country. CFA will help bring about change and justice. We’re saddened by the lack of either so far for Breonna Taylor and her loved ones.
