Register for CFA Social Justice Unionism Workshop 

CFA is holding a virtual workshop on Social Justice Unionism on Wednesday, September 16 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. All members are welcome to attend and can register here.   

The workshop will cover the purpose of unionism in the context of social justice and how our experiences inform our activism. It will also include discussion on what being part of a union means while simultaneously being part of societal change.   

Chris Cox, CFA Associate Vice President of Racial and Social Justice, North and San Jose State lecturer, will facilitate the workshop.  Cox said he wants to broaden how we think about labor organizing so that we meet the real needs of the people who work in the CSU system. Faculty have a lot of different racial and social justice issues that impact our day-to-day work, including anti-transgender and anti-immigrant sentiments, he added.  

“The core idea is to develop and deepen our understanding that addressing real concerns for people in our workplace is bread and butter,” Cox said. “Bread and butter isn’t simply arguing over salary, but seeking to meet the needs of our colleagues through all the ways that we engage in our work. Higher education is under attack, and in order for us to meet the moment, we have to expand our notion of how we as unionists fight for justice.”
