As the Fall semester begins, CFA members are organizing actions to build union power and ramp up our “Fund the Classroom” bargaining campaign. 

Please take a moment to sign this pledge for our campaign to Fund the Classroom, Not the Boardroom. Your pledge helps build our collective power towards the rights and respect we deserve. 

Many CFA chapters are partnering with CSU sibling unions, like CSUEU, the Teamsters, APC, and more—each facing similar struggles with the CSU administration—to hold joint demonstrations, distribute flyers together, and strengthen our solidarity. 

CSU management continues to stonewall our unions on issues such as raises and workload, despite how the new California State budget included $365.7 million in new ongoing funding for the CSU. 

At CSU Long Beach, union members interrupted a speech by the new campus president Loren Blanchard during Convocation. Wearing union colors, they stood up and chanted “One fight, five unions!” as well as “What do we want? Fair contract! When do we want it? Now!” They later walked out of the building chanting “Five unions, One Fight,” to remind all CSU workers that we are in this struggle together.  

 

Members of the CSU Labor Coalition held a similar action at Stanislaus State, where they stood up with posters and chanted as campus president Britt Rios-Ellis took the stage during convocation. A few of the signs read, “AI is a tool not a teacher” and “Stan State is a public good, not a private equity firm.”  

CFA members at CSU San Bernardino took a creative approach to one of their actions to begin the fall semester. They made labels for soda cans that read “Our demand: COLA + 2%,” referencing our bargaining proposal for cost-of-living adjustments measured by the Consumer Price Index + 2%. Members also put a bargaining facts label on top of the nutrition facts on soda cans.  

Chapters are planning more actions in the weeks to come.

  • Unions at Cal State LA highlight ongoing systemwide contract disputes at Convocation ceremony, University Times: “In the lead-up to the fall semester across the California State University system, thousands of union members are protesting stagnating wages, even as administrator pay continues to rise.”
