So What’s Up with Bargaining ?
Recap and ReconnectThis post will recap where we’ve been, reconnect you to what we are working towards, and give a note about the upcoming bargaining sessions schedule in Nov
You may be wondering what is going on with the bargaining process that began in January. Here is where we have been:
- After initial conversations about negotiating the next Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the process stalled in April with both sides disagreeing on how bargaining would be conducted.
- We filed a charge with the Public Employees Relations Board (PERB) about the unwillingness of the CSU to bargain in good faith.
- After much discussion, we agreed to drop the charge in order to get back to the table, rather than let Management use the PERB process as another delay tactic to drag their feet.

We recognize that we are negotiating in a moment of increasing attacks on our faculty and students, from the federal government demanding private contact information from faculty and staff at CSULA, ongoing budget and staff cuts despite continued salary increases for CSU presidents and a $17 million AI Initiative, immigration enforcement that is terrorizing communities, and crackdowns on academic freedom, free speech, and union organizing.
Amidst this landscape, WE ARE DEMANDING improved salaries at all ranks and ranges, greater job stability, defined workloads, faculty rights with regard to AI and academic freedom, improved paid leave, and greater equity related to race, gender, LGBTQIA+, disability and other systemically disadvantaged identities.

Now that we are heading back to the bargaining table on November 20-21, expect more news as the process proceeds. We are planning information sessions on campus in the coming months with more on specific demands and progress.
