November/December Wrap Up!

Hello Unit 3!
The first thing you probably noticed is that this issue of the newsletter is a “two-in-one” special! As the holidays and semester comes to a close we did not want to inundate you with multiple reviews. So, we decided to bring all the reviews together into one last newsletter for the fall semester and close out 2025. It has been a semester of community building, organizing, and campus work as we work to preserve our work, bargain for our next contract. In this last Wrap Up, we will cover the events your CFA hosted or participated in from the end of October through November:
Quick Bargaining Update
Nov. 21: Have you seen the recent proposals we made in bargaining? We made a ton of proposals across a number of articles, and management made one. We worked to write stronger pay increases that are tied to beating inflation; to better the work protections for the precarious lecturers, and more! Management offered what amounts to an ice cream party and a sweatshirt…we did that already, right?!
Nov. 24: CFA statewide bargaining team held a Bargaining Town Hall on the pay proposals, the lecturer order of assignment proposals, as well as workload, AI, and more. Check out our chapter update on bargaining here– as we all know too well, knowing what is going on is the first step to success, so get informed now!
Campus Community Building
On Nov. 5th, we supported the Dia de los Muertos altar constructed by Chapter co-President Alma Flores and Sofia Gonzales of Students for Quality Education. The altar honored our local and national labor ancestors.
On Nov. 6th, CFA met in community to cheer on another Hornet Athletics program. This time, we watched the Hornet Women’s Volleyball team play against Northern Arizona. The Hornets won!
On Nov. 11, CFA supported the Hornet Men’s Basketball team and their game against UC Santa Barbara. Though the team did not see glory that day, CFA members did enjoy their time together!
Nov. 14 was a day devoted to lecturers. Danielle Duckett, your Chapter Lecturer Representative, held the last Lecturer’s Council meeting to handle any lecturer questions about contracts, work load, and other issues that arise this time in the semester. These meetings are a great place to meet other lecturers, too! Interested in joining the next one? You’ll have to wait until spring, so keep an eye out for the upcoming schedule.
Community Organizing
Through an initiative at the statewide CFA level, our local chapters were granted People Power funds to support community organizations in our areas. CFA Sacramento chose to partner with NorCal Resist. Learn more about our connections to NorCal Resist here! (link to Our Community Connections article in this newsletter)!
Campus Organizing
Following up on the Oct. 20th Library Information Gathering/Organizing meeting, a working group was formed to develop steps forward in approaching the planned cuts to the library funding. It is still as clear today as it was the day we called to, “Save the Library,” these cuts are NOT SUSTAINABLE. Stay tuned for a spring push to restore these funds to save our students from the impacts of a library that will be closed more and has less to offer than it did before.
That’s a wrap!
