NEWSOM SIGNS COVID-19 PAID LEAVE BILL FOR
WORKERS: Governor Gavin Newsom stepped up for faculty
when CSU Chancellor Joseph I. Castro would not. This month,
Newsom signed into law
Senate Bill 95, a supplemental COVID-19 paid sick leave law.
CFA leaders will meet and confer with the CSU over implementing
the leave program. SB 95 gives many
Californian workers access to two
weeks of paid sick leave, backdated to Jan. 1. These hours
are available now and retroactive to the beginning of the
calendar year. If anyone asks for time to care for children and
family due to COVID-19 and school closures, the time should be
approved. If any faculty member is refused the leave, contact
your CFA chapter leader (northern
California chapter leaders and
southern California chapter leaders) right away so that we
can take appropriate legal action. To see a breakdown of the
law,
