September CFA Department Chairs Trainings: The work of department chairs is an important one and we want to help you along the way. Have questions about assigning courses? Concerns about your rights as a department chair or program manager? Join us for one of two workshops this month, where we will cover your rights and role as a chair, articles of importance for re-appointment and class assignment, workload, Retention, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP), evaluation and more.

“As an externally hired department chair, I attended several chair development workshops, learned from generous other chairs, and read my CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) often,” said Kathy Jamieson, CFA Sacramento community liaison. “Intentionally different from the corporate-style, budget protection, and litigation reduction of other workshops, the CFA workshop prepared me for truly respecting faculty work, including my own. CFA’s on-the-ground work for equity and social justice comes through in its framing of all levels of hiring, advancement, and retention — this not only spoke to my own queerly Brown academic journey, but also provided me a set of tools to better support all faculty in doing their best work.”

Workshops will be held Monday, September 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursday, September 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Space is limited, and RSVP is required. Register here.
