Department Chairs are faculty, and like all CSU faculty, Department Chairs are represented by CFA. In addition to teaching, performing research and/or producing discipline specific works, and service, Department Chairs are often instructed by deans or other administrators to take actions that impact the terms and conditions of employment of other faculty.  As a result, sometimes being a chair can turn out to be a challenging experience.

Collective Bargaining Agreement

Department Chairs who are familiar with our faculty contract and work with CFA leaders can be among the best advocates for faculty. We encourage Department Chairs to work with CFA chapters on how best to follow the CBA.

Faculty Workload: Policies and Procedures

The President of each campus is responsible for the overall conduct of the campus’ educational program including the utilization of budgeted instructional faculty positions and the proper assignment of individual faculty workloads.
